Arrest for Unlicensed Possession of Police Equipment

Police remind the public of the risks of unauthorized firearms possession

On Friday, March 10th, 2023, the Redwood City Police Department arrested a 24-year-old man for the unlicensed possession of police equipment. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on El Camino Real near Whipple Avenue.

During the traffic stop, officers observed the suspect wearing a police badge and carrying a pair of handcuffs. The suspect was unable to provide a valid explanation for possessing the items, and he was taken into custody without incident.

The Redwood City Police Department would like to remind the public that it is illegal to possess police equipment without a valid permit. Police equipment, including handcuffs, badges, and firearms, are restricted to sworn law enforcement officers.

Anyone found in possession of unauthorized police equipment may be arrested and charged with a crime. The Redwood City Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our community, and we will continue to investigate and prosecute any violations of the law.
